Historically, adding Dysprosium (Dy) and Terbium (Tb) was necessary to achieve high thermal stability (e.g., EH and AH classes). However, because these heavy rare earth elements are expensive and scarce, modern factories use Grain Boundary Diffusion (GBD) technology. GBD targets the distribution of Dy/Tb specifically along the grain boundary junctions, rather than inside the main crystal grains. This increases the magnet's intrinsic coercivity (Hcj) while minimizing remanence (Br) loss.
Modern production lines use ultra-fine powder preparation under inert gas protection, followed by pressure-assisted magnetic field orientation molding and vacuum sintering. This yields magnet microstructures with high orientation factors (exceeding 97%) and low impurity levels.
