The Physics of Sintered NdFeB

Sintered Neodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB) represents the pinnacle of permanent magnet technology, offering the highest maximum energy product (BH)max up to 52 MGOe. Utilizing tetragonal crystalline structures ($Nd_2Fe_{14}B$), these custom neodymium products provide unmatched magnetic remanence ($B_r$) and intrinsic coercivity ($H_{ci}$), making them essential for space-constrained, high-torque applications.

Recent advancements in Grain Boundary Diffusion (GBD) technology have allowed manufacturers to optimize thermal stability. By strategically diffusing heavy rare-earth elements like Dysprosium (Dy) or Terbium (Tb) only through the grain boundary junctions, we significantly reduce consumption of critical raw materials while maintaining performance at operating temperatures exceeding 200°C.

Surface Passivation & Coating Engineering

Due to the high iron content in NdFeB, susceptibility to corrosion is a key limiting factor in harsh industrial environments. Modern manufacturing implements multi-layer protection schemes including Nickel-Copper-Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni), Epoxy Resin encapsulation, Zinc electroplating, and chemical vapor deposited Parylene coatings.

For precast concrete magnets, which are subjected to continuous exposure to alkaline concrete slurry, moisture, and abrasive aggregates, the external casing is typically constructed from high-grade stainless steel or carbon steel with black oxide passivation. This guarantees the inner sintered NdFeB blocks remain hermetically sealed against chemical degradation and mechanical impacts.

Q1: What determines the pull force rating in a shuttering magnet assembly?
The vertical holding force is determined by three main elements: the volume and grade of the sintered NdFeB blocks inside the unit, the design of the internal magnetic steel circuit, and the air gap between the magnet face and the steel casting bed. Highly polished steel beds with zero debris allow the magnet to achieve its maximum rated pull force (e.g., 2100kg or 900kg). Even a 0.5 mm air gap can result in a significant drop in holding capacity.
Q2: How do temperature fluctuations affect custom neodymium products in industrial applications?
Standard Neodymium magnets have a maximum operating temperature of 80°C (N grade). For high-temperature curing chambers in precast concrete plants or thermal applications, we use high-coercivity grades (M, H, SH, UH, EH, or AH), which utilize heavy rare-earth diffusion to prevent demagnetization. Using these grades allows the magnets to perform continuously at temperatures ranging from 100°C up to 220°C.
Q3: Why are permanent magnets preferred over mechanical clamps on precast concrete beds?
Mechanical clamps require drilling holes or welding directly onto the high-cost steel casting tables, which damages the surface over time. Shuttering magnets allow users to securely clamp down formwork profiles using strong magnetic force alone. They can be placed and released using an ergonomic lever, eliminating platform wear and significantly improving cycle times.
Q4: What maintenance is required to prevent demagnetization and physical wear?
To maintain performance, the bottom surface of the magnet must be kept clean of dried concrete paste and grit. Using scrapers or oiling the steel housing prevents corrosion and concrete adhesion. Demagnetization occurs only when exposed to temperatures exceeding the rated thermal threshold or when subject to extreme physical shock that fractures the internal NdFeB crystals.
